Location

There are two airports near Kraków:

• Kraków John Paul II International Airport (KRK), in Balice is about 15 km outside the city centre and roughly 20 minutes by train. This is the airport that is closest to the meeting venue.
• Katowice Airport (KTW) in Pyrzowice is roughly 100 km away.

Bus to city centre

From the airport, you can take the bus.
Daytime: Bus lines 209 and 300 connect the airport with the city centre.
Night time: Bus 902 runs all night long to and from the airport to the centre. The buses depart every 20 to 60 minutes (depending on the time of day).
The day trips take around 50 minutes and the night around 30 minutes to the city centre.

You can buy tickets from the vending machines at the airport, which accept cards.

The Jakdojade website and app provides a good overview of public transport options and also allows you to buy a ticket through the app.

A one way bus ticket from the airport to the meeting venue costs 8 PLN (you can just about manage with a 6 PLN ticket within 60 minutes provided you do not need to wait while changing buses or trams, do so at your own risk).

Please note that you must validate your ticket as soon as you enter the bus or tram.
It is also possible to buy a week ticket if you plan on using public transport throughout the RIPE Meeting.

 

To Metropolo Krakow by Golden Tulip

Borek Fałęcki is the closest tram and bus stop to the Metropolo. It is roughly 500 metres from the venue. If you are looking up public transport options on Google Maps or other apps, use this as your end destination. Tram numbers 8, 9, 22 and 50 all lead here.

By bus: From the airport to the hotel, take bus 209 or bus 300 to the city centre, or the train from Krakow Airport to Krakow Główny station. Please note that if you take the bus, there are multiple stops along this route at which you can switch to a bus or tram heading towards Borek Fałęcki, the stop you need to get to the Metropolo. If you’re unsure of where to change, Rondo Grunwaldzkie is a good option. It is a large stop, and you can switch to tram 22 towards Borek Fałęcki.

By train: If you’re at the station, exit at “Dworzec Główny”. Take tram 50 to Borek Fałęcki, the tram ride takes approximately 40 minutes. The hotel is a short walk of approximately 500 metres from this stop.

By taxi: The taxi rank is outside the airport Arrivals hall. It is recommended to use official taxis with a visible meter and licence. Taxis are relatively inexpensive in Kraków and are the easiest and way to move around the city. A taxi ride from the airport to the city centre costs around 22€ (90PLN).

You can also use Uber from Krakow Airport. The fare is slightly cheaper than a standard taxi’s. A train ride takes around 25–35 minutes, depending on traffic. Taxis usually accept credit card payment, but it’s best to check with the driver before you get in. If you can’t speak Polish, have your address written down ready to show the driver.

To get from the airport to the Metropolo Krakow by Golden Tulip by car, you can follow these general directions:

From John Paul II International Airport Kraków-Balice (KRK):

• John Paul II International Airport Kraków-Balice. Kapitana Mieczysława Medweckiego 1, 32-083 Balice, Poland.
• Take Kapitana Mieczysława Medweckiego to A4 in Kraków (6 min, 1.8 km)
• Follow A4 to Zakopianka/Zakopiańska. Take the exit toward Kraków/Centrum from A4 (9 min, 14.3 km)
• Continue on Zakopianka/Zakopiańska to your destination (5 min, 2.6 km)

From Katowice Airport (KTW):

• Katowice Airport

• Get on Droga Ekspresowa S1/S1 from DW913 (8 min, 3.5 km)
• Continue on Droga Ekspresowa S1/S1.
• Take A4/E40 to Zakopianka/Zakopiańska in Kraków.
• Take the exit toward Kraków/Centrum from A4/E40 (1 hour 12 min, 105 km)
• Continue on Zakopianka/Zakopiańska to your destination (5 min, 2.6 km)
