Martin Pels - 2024-05-21 16:03:31
Yes, this is MAT :-)

Stephen Strowes - 2024-05-21 16:06:05
@randy sorry for being slightly tardy!

Randy Bush - 2024-05-21 16:07:01
i want a refund!

Robert Kisteleki - 2024-05-21 16:07:55
Atlas credits perhaps? :-)

Randy Bush - 2024-05-21 16:10:13
i have a few

Daniel Karrenberg - 2024-05-21 16:26:12
@randy: hugs? 🤗

Randy Bush - 2024-05-21 16:29:13
@dfk: snif. i already felt bad about not being there.

Robert Scheck - 2024-05-21 16:30:16
Ha, even stenographer has issues to understand the presenter?

Frank Fiene - 2024-05-21 16:31:11
Hell, no! This does not work remotely.

Robert Scheck - 2024-05-21 16:31:33
I thought there are audio checks for remote presenters, no?

Frank Fiene - 2024-05-21 16:32:55
I guess a problem with his audio setup.

Robert Scheck - 2024-05-21 16:33:44
Yes, but I thought there are tests before to confirm that the presenter set up his audio correctly.

Frank Fiene - 2024-05-21 16:35:03
Agree

Frank Fiene - 2024-05-21 16:35:53
This could have prevented. Bad mic and reverb from sitting directly at the wall.

Mike Hughes - 2024-05-21 16:36:03
Sounds like echoey room, quite a high level/clipping from the mic, and echo cancellation not playing well.

Frank Fiene - 2024-05-21 16:36:21
Yes, mic level too high.

Mike Hughes - 2024-05-21 16:36:40
hugely better already.

Stephen Strowes - 2024-05-21 16:37:18
yes they did an audio test prior, sorry for this one being a little out of bounds

Frank Fiene - 2024-05-21 16:37:47
🤗

Viacheslav Adamanov - 2024-05-21 16:47:28
no sound

Moritz Müller - 2024-05-21 16:48:07
works fine here

Stephen Strowes - 2024-05-21 16:48:34
seems to be working?

Randy Bush - 2024-05-21 16:48:47
i have audio

Mike Hughes - 2024-05-21 16:59:30
Sounds as though working out if unconscious bias in measurement sources has significantly impacted outcomes/results is a piece of research in itself.

Randy Bush - 2024-05-21 17:01:00
just looking at the measurements, you can tell how biased they are in relation to an abstract measurement set. but one has no idea the researchers' intended use of the measurement(s).

Mike Hughes - 2024-05-21 17:33:24
A RIPE Labs blog article on the modelling of the cloud vs on-prem would be interesting.

Moritz Müller - 2024-05-21 17:33:30
+1 for Randy
As someone who's working in a company where we also collect larger amounts of data, we're having the exact same questions

Razvan Oprea - 2024-05-21 17:34:36
@randy, in this specific case, the cost savings came from moving from manually maintained on-premise Elasticsearch clusters to managed OpenSearch service which allowed us to use S3 as backend for historical data.

Mike Hughes - 2024-05-21 17:34:49
I suspect folks who have modelled it in commercial orgs can't share it because it's commercially sensitive to their org. Maybe because the NCC is a membership org it is less commercially sensitive to talk about the modelling.

Stephen Strowes - 2024-05-21 17:35:00
thank you to our presenters and for everybody who joined!

Martin Pels - 2024-05-21 17:35:05
This session has now ended. The next session is "Building A Stable Future for the RIPE NCC" and it will start at 18:00. More info on the RIPE 88 meeting plan: https://ripe88.ripe.net/programme/meeting-plan/

Razvan Oprea - 2024-05-21 17:35:26
It is on a case by case basis, in this case this was the sensible approach, it will likely not work for any random workload

Randy Bush - 2024-05-21 17:35:59
nothing works for a random workload. luckily there are none :)

Razvan Oprea - 2024-05-21 17:36:10
True :)
