Congrats Moritz!

Benno Overeinder - 2024-05-22 09:01:51
Two times!

Peter Thomassen - 2024-05-22 09:01:54
congrats Moritz, also twice!

Moritz Müller - 2024-05-22 09:02:31
Yes we can

Moritz Müller - 2024-05-22 09:02:38
At least in Meetecho

Elmar K. Bins - 2024-05-22 09:02:48
Looks right to me

Moritz Müller - 2024-05-22 09:03:06
And thanks Benno and Peter :)

Willem Toorop - 2024-05-22 09:13:47
Last slide, so you may think about questions

Tim Wicinski - 2024-05-22 09:16:26
thanks Peter for sticking with this

Peter Thomassen - 2024-05-22 09:16:40
:) thank you for shepherding the document!

Willem Toorop - 2024-05-22 09:27:34
Last slide, so time to think about questions

Benno Overeinder - 2024-05-22 09:27:45
With the AD's and WG chairs, there will be close coordination between DELEG WG and DNSOP WG.

Willem Toorop - 2024-05-22 09:45:04
No time for questions. Sorry...

Peter Thomassen - 2024-05-22 09:48:03
https://stats.labs.apnic.net/edns has a very confusing URL

Mike Hughes - 2024-05-22 10:01:47
To Liman's point - the more people work with this, even with documented assumptions, the more we will know whether those assumptions are potentially iffy or not, and learn to make better assumptions. :)

Peter Thomassen - 2024-05-22 10:02:33
I think if we (society) move the electricity to renewable energies, then the energy efficiency of the DNS not of particular relevance

Peter Thomassen - 2024-05-22 10:02:55
(I mean, it still is for cost reasons, but not environmentally)

Michael Richardson - 2024-05-22 10:04:17
optimizing for typical load might leave one failing when being DDoS. That's why the machines are overprovisioned.

Mike Hughes - 2024-05-22 10:04:29
@peter - so we then still have the embodied energy in the supply chain to tackle, which is still sizeable - even if it's spread across multiple years.

Peter Thomassen - 2024-05-22 10:04:41
that's rihgt.

Vesna Manojlovic - 2024-05-22 10:09:19
Would the community be interested in working on Sandoche's challenge in the hackathon format?

Benno Overeinder - 2024-05-22 10:12:42
I'm interested in the relative profits (or costs) at different places in the DNS ecosystem. Taking a different angle, e.g. the use of XDP by name servers can sometimes half the hardware footprint.

Willem Toorop - 2024-05-22 10:12:45
@vesna Definitely!

Rudolf van der Berg - 2024-05-22 10:14:44
Certainly willing to give some input. If only to help deal with some kwh/GB related misconceptions

Benno Overeinder - 2024-05-22 10:17:07
With profits I mean the gain/improvement we can achieve.

Vesna Manojlovic - 2024-05-22 10:20:25
@willem & Rudolf & Benno: thanks! I'll follow up!

Willem Toorop - 2024-05-22 10:22:17
@vesna Yes I think it would be good to come to consensus on a model with all the aspects that count etc.

Willem Toorop - 2024-05-22 10:23:05
And have that published somewhere (so claimes can be compared as well)

Benno Overeinder - 2024-05-22 10:30:28
Shane, Babak and Dave, thanks for the interesting discussion!

Alvaro Vives - 2024-05-22 10:30:51
